Sweet & Spicy Apple Chips

I have clearly let you in on my household’s chip addiction.  We like tortilla chips with guacamole, pita chips with hummus, pretzel chips with spinach and artichoke dip….the list could really go on and on.  In continuation of Apple Week, I decided to make apple chips!  (I have yet to think of a corresponding dip, though, so if you have suggestions, let me know!)

My first spice pairing instinct for apples is cinnamon.  However, there are countless cinnamon apple chip recipes out there.  I wanted to challenge myself and I thought about my sweet husband.  He loves spicy foods!  So a sweet and spicy apple chip recipe was the natural step.

Pre heat the oven to 250.  Using a mandolin, slice the apples in thin, even slices, picking out the seeds as you go.  Set all the apple slices on a parchment paper covered baking sheet.  Lightly brush the top side of each apple slice with the maple syrup and sprinkle the red pepper flakes atop.

That’s it!  I garnished with a few extra pepper flakes and brown sugar, but if you want to keep it sugar-free, they’re just as good without it.  Be on the lookout for all my other apple recipes this week.  Enjoy!
